The only constant is change.

Dynamic inactivity is always an option but seldom the answer.

A satisfied need ceases to motivate.

Ask the right questions to get the right answers.

Listen to what people mean - not just what they say.

The power of the team is a thousand times the sum of the individual.

Good leaders handle change well by 'anticipating the unexpected'.

The most effective form of leadership is when it's least apparent.

There's no real progress without risk.

Directing an organisation is different from managing one.

Mentors are enablers, and mentoring is an enabling process.

Executive Coaching and Mentoring

Every business leader and decision maker has the choice of keeping their own counsel or taking advantage of an experienced, recognised coach/mentor, who can extend their thinking and enable them to gain the perspective to make the tough decisions, the right decisions.

John Eaton has been working in business and with business executives for over 30 years. His accumulated knowledge of people and the boundaries within which they operate, has given him an exceptional view of corporate needs and the relationships that need to be forged in one-to-one interaction. John has the insight to tackle the unusual with enthusiasm and the extraordinary with passion and zeal.

Establishing a format for progress, in what can be a very open-ended process, is the first key action before commencing. The personalised Executive Perspective profile, sets out the overall purpose of the approach, including the frequency of meetings, which may vary from monthly through to quarterly, according to the perceived need. Discussions are specific to the individual, encompassing the four priority areas: Process – People – Personal – Politics and prior completion of the associated questionnaires helps to open up ideas and views in advance.

Meetings, for up to three hours at a time, are best held off-site, to avoid work distractions. The detail of all discussions is regarded as strictly confidential, although individuals will be encouraged, wherever possible, to talk openly with their director/senior manager following sessions, to extend two-way communications.

Spearheading Board Groups

It is often very tempting to devote more time to the ‘day job’, at the expense of being a fully participating board group member. Short term needs are kept in sharp focus, whilst taking the longer view can be seen as too broad and often irrelevant to the here and now.

Enabling directors and senior managers to step back from the day-to-day issues at work is the specialism of John Eaton, whose own experiences at board level have helped him understand the pressures and priorities that exist. He encourages senior people to move away from the detail of the job, to appreciate the priority of their strategic role and the importance of working with the team to ‘route map the business’.

Getting experienced leaders, with often excessive workloads and limited availability, to take time out from the day-to-day and focus on the key strategic issues, can be the first challenge! Once together, they are encouraged to use their creative skills in harnessing the power of the strategic team - since, by definition, if they're not pulling together, they must be pulling apart!'

A bespoke programme, run off-site, can cover two or even three days according to availability, with individual discussions in advance to gain clarity and set the scene. The style of approach is fully participative, involving work-related issues and practical applications. Challenging beliefs and assumptions can also improve collective decision making, one of the major benefits in achieving core team cohesion.

Motivational Speaking

With a background in sales, marketing, leadership and life, plus many years running his own business, working with a wide cross-section of international organisations, John Eaton has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience in lifting levels of drive and enthusiasm and in raising the bar of professionalism for whatever we do.

John’s experience over the last thirty years with business leaders and decision makers, has given him ample opportunities to hone his unique approach in engaging his audiences with style and humour. His accomplished manner and technique in drawing people towards him is a recognisable skill and his easy way with words helps to establish him as a speaker of choice.

Speaking assignments can vary considerably, from conferences, conventions and corporate events, through seminars, trade shows and after dinner functions. The initial need is to establish the purpose of the event and the speakers brief from the client. Objectives cover many areas, including inspiring an audience, moving people to action, changing perceptions or getting groups to pull together. Presentations can offer the voice of experience, warm, encouraging messages, or even emotionally charged dialogue and will always be informative, often exciting and motivational, using a mixture of leadership, humour and professionalism to inspire the audience.
